An agent’s main prompt defines its role, behavior, tone, and guardrails. Prompt Add-ons supply short, reusable facts that can change independently of those core instructions.

Prompt Add-ons

Prompt Add-ons keep current operational information separate from an agent’s main prompt. Use them for facts such as operating hours, temporary service notices, current availability, or contact and routing details. One Prompt Add-on can be assigned to multiple agents, so the information can be updated in one place. Each Prompt Add-on contains a name, a description, and an ordered list of key-value items. VIVI adds the assigned items before the agent’s main prompt and treats them as current facts to consider before using integration or knowledge bases. Changes are reflected in assigned agents on their next request.
1

Create a Prompt Add-on

Navigate to Prompt Add-ons in your workspace and click Add New.
2

Add a Name and Description

Choose a name that identifies the information, then explain what it is for and when an agent should use it.
3

Add Items

Enter at least one key-value item. The key identifies the fact and the value contains the information the agent should use. Each Prompt Add-on can contain up to 10 items, and item keys must be unique within the Add-on.
4

Assign Agents

Select the agents that should receive the information. You can leave the Prompt Add-on unassigned and attach it later from the agent’s Prompt Add-ons settings.
5

Save and Test

Save the Prompt Add-on, then test each assigned agent with questions that require the new information.

Example

Name: Guest Services Hours Description: Current facility hours for guest questions. Use these values before searching external systems.

When to Use Prompt Add-ons

Use a Prompt Add-on when the information is short, structured, shared across agents, or likely to change more often than the main prompt. Keep the following content in its existing location:
  • Put the agent’s persona, behavior, response rules, and guardrails in the main prompt.
  • Put long reference material and source documents in a knowledge base.
  • Keep passwords, API keys, access tokens, and other secrets out of prompts and Prompt Add-ons.

Best Practices

  • Give each Add-on one clear purpose, such as holiday hours or a temporary service policy.
  • Use specific keys and keep one fact or instruction in each value.
  • Use the description to tell the agent when the information applies.
  • Add items in the order you want them presented to the agent.
  • Remove expired information instead of adding exceptions around it.
  • Check for conflicts with the main prompt, knowledge bases, and other assigned Add-ons.
  • Review the assigned agent list before editing shared information. One change can affect several agents on their next request.
  • Retest affected agents after creating, editing, assigning, unassigning, or deleting an Add-on.
